Our Heritage
Prestige foods is a family-owned and operated business that has been in the meat industry for almost 120 years.
Prestige Foods was founded by Marc Sokolik in 1990. He spent the first part of his career with his family meat packing company, Royal Packing in St. Louis MO. It was founded by his grandfather in 1907. They were St. Louis’ largest beef packer and Marc was vice president of sales and marketing. When boxed beef replaced carcass beef Royal Packing closed.
Fortunately, Marc was involved in the meat industry serving on the board of directors of two large meat packing organizations. Some opportunities arose for him, and Prestige Foods was born.
Marc made one sale in helping his meat contact solve their inventory problem. Other customers emerged and slowly grew into a network who needed assistance with moving products out of their warehouses.
Prestige Foods currently generates a few million in sales by offering independent distributors deals on products such as irregular and number one and two bacon, bacon ends and pieces, bacon bits, pizza toppings, sausage patties, hot dogs, pepperoni, fully cooked chicken products and more. These companies buy economically so they compete with the major chains and food distributors who control 75% of the business in the United States.
In 2016, Marc’s daughter, Kim joined him to help grow the business and in 2024, Kim’s son, Cameron joined as well. Kim came from a background of working in foodservice with a local distributor in St. Louis and then Foodmaker. Cameron came from a background of marketing and sales and brings a new perspective as a younger set of eyes.
